Hi all, i walked to my daughter's school with my husband on Tuesday. My husband was striding out and i was trying to keep up with him. The day after when i got out of bed it felt like my foot was splitting. It is still painful and not swollen. Even if i put my hand around my foot and apply pressure it is very tender. I had this at the very beginning of diagnosis and i had some inserts made with the podiatrist. I think i will have to get an appontment to get some new ones made. I hadn't worn them over the summer as they dont fit into sandals.
I'm sure it's not a flare as it happened after my walking a bit too quickly. I will keep you posted. Not looking forward to going to work tomorrow as i'm on my feet a lot Sad

Hello there,

I too have problems with my feet and have been told that I should wear the insoles at all times to prevent the metatarsal joints from collapsing more. It is very frustrating having to wear full shoes all the time. I'm afraid I have not been able to find sandals that would take the insoles in a sensible way, so have had to wear light trainers all summer. I have Hotter ones which I find more comfy than other trainers as you can remove the insoles to put your own ones in, and some of the Hotter styles come in extra wide fittings.

I think you should see your podiatrist as you may need deeper posts fitted to your insoles.

Take care.

Karen

Hi Dawn and Karen

I too have problems with my feet and had insoles made by the Podiatrist. I wear sandals most of the time, even in winter because shoes are not comfortable. Initially my insoles were black but I asked Podiatrist if he could make some less conspicuous for sandals and he covered them with a beige 'covering', don't know what it is, and I stick them on to my sandals with double sided velcro (B & Q) and they are great. Yes, they are visible at the back but unless I point them out to people they don't notice

Hello Dawn

Totally understand what you going through with your foot. I saw podi last year and was
made insoles as well, but like you said if you squeeze the foot with pressure it is soo painful.
When I have been on my feet too long I start to stumble as my feet are tired and I
have difficulty in lifting them which causes me to trip.

My feet and hands are at worse with the RA actually

Hi
Sorry to read the foot is so troublesome. My arches went after the first few yrs and now they don't hurt as much. You can have a joint injection in there.
In the meantime, Keeping your foot elevated, gentle full rotation exercises and try cold treatments (frozen peas in a towel).

You aren't alone and we know it hurts

Used to remind me of walking on pebbles

The velcro is great. You don't need to worry about it slipping off, it is a very strong one and takes some getting off when you want to change it. It was my Podiatrist's idea not mine so I can't take the credit but it really works.
